On Voyager Day, Peter Carnley Anglican Community School welcomed over 60 eager Year 6 students both from within the PCACS community and local area primary schools for an exciting and enriching day of exploration, creativity and challenge.

Held as part of the application process for our 2026 Voyager Specialist Programmes, the day gave prospective students a taste of what lies ahead in our selective Academic and Instrumental Music streams. The Voyager Programmes are designed to engage, extend and inspire high achieving students through dynamic learning experiences and authentic challenges.

Throughout the day, students completed a general abilities test before diving into stimulating taster sessions in English, Mathematics and Science. In English, students were encouraged to stretch their imaginations and think critically, with one student saying they particularly “enjoyed writing about why extinct animals should be brought back to life.” Meanwhile, the Math’s session sparked curious minds with out of the box problems, prompting one student to exclaim, “I loved thinking about out of this world questions, how would a rollercoaster work on the moon?”

Science, as always, proved a highlight. For many, it was their first time conducting real chemical experiments. “I loved Science, it was the first time I got to mix chemicals!” shared one excited participant.

The students also enjoyed a well earned pizza lunch where they had the chance to meet like minded peers and talk with some of the staff who will guide the Voyager journey. When asked about the day, one student summed it up simply: “I liked everything!”

Voyager Day marks an important step in the selection process for the 2026 Voyager cohort, as we identify and shortlist students for our Academic and Instrumental Music Programmes. These programmes offer a unique opportunity for students to explore learning in a highly engaging, project based environment that emphasises critical thinking, creativity and real world application.
We look forward to welcoming the next generation of Voyagers as they begin their secondary school journey at PCACS.
