One of the most positive and valuable components of Peter Carnley Anglican Community School is our community.
We are blessed to be a collection of people who have come together with the same goal, how do we facilitate our students to become members of the community who value belonging, excellence, spirituality and respect? This shared goal, guides the way we think about community and highlights the importance of providing opportunities for parents, families and special friends to be invited to share in the life of the school.
The support from our Junior School community is evident across both campuses. At every assembly, chapel and special event, our families show up in large numbers to support the students, sharing in their achievements and their learning. The importance of this support cannot be understated and is a visible sign of the partnership between school and home.
Term 2 is a special time for community events in the Junior School. We commenced the term with Grandparents Day, inviting the more seasoned and knowledgeable members of the community to come and share a morning with us in the school. Always a favourite amongst grandparents and students alike, this year we had more families attend than ever before, with some travelling from the UK for the event! The opportunity to share this special experience with grandparents and to thank them for their love and care of our students, is such an important ritual for us at Peter Carnley. It also demonstrates to the students how to care and respect people who are older in our community, listening to their stories and experiences and sharing learning alongside them and visiting the book fair. The Parents and Friends Association generously supported the event by providing morning tea, which was appreciated by grandparents who needed an energy kick before braving the energy levels of the Junior School classrooms.
We will conclude Term 2 with the Founder’s Day All Saints Colour Run event at the Calista and Wellard Campuses. All Saints School is an Anglican School in Samoa that PCACS supports through service learning initiatives in the Junior and Senior School. The Junior School is in the midst of fundraising to assist with providing All Saints with some new playground equipment at the school. An important element of service learning is also taking action and at the end of term our fundraising will culminate in a colour run, with parents, families and friends all running together on the oval. It is impressive to see the way that our families join together to advocate for service of others in such an important community event.
I extend my sincere thanks to our families for their support of our community. Although you are not necessarily with us every day, we value your contributions and the way you continue to show up and join in. You are a big part of what makes our community such a successful place of learning.
God bless.
