There’s something wonderful about stepping into a library shelves filled with stories, new ideas, and the chance to discover something unexpected.
At PCACS, students are uncovering all kinds of treasures from powerful picture books and laugh out loud novels to thought provoking stories and fascinating nonfiction. With so many great reads, some books hardly stay on the shelves long!
A highlight this term has been student participation in the Western Australian Young Readers’ Book Award (WAYRBA). Many students have been busy reading books from the shortlist and voting for their favourites. The enthusiasm has been fantastic to see which books have sparked the most discussion. In Term 3, we look forward to welcoming illustrator Gavin Aung Than, creator of this year’s WAYRBA poster. Students in Years 2 to 6 can enter a colouring competition for the chance to win one of his books!
We’ve also welcomed Miss Vanessa Bright, our new Teacher Librarian, who is working with students to connect them with both great stories and useful research tools. Year 8 has been reminded to explore LearnPath, where library staff have curated trusted online resources to support their studies. Each Year 7 PCG class is visiting the library this term to discover how it can support their learning. In the primary years, Year 4 students are learning how to use World Book Encyclopedia and locate reliable websites for research.
Students across the school have access to a range of digital platforms, including World Book, ClickView, and Informit Explore. These can also be accessed at home via the Oliver Library Catalogue located in SEQTA-Learn. Our Sora app also gives students access to eBooks and eAudiobooks for reading or listening anytime, anywhere. Parents of younger students may like to help them get set up with Sora at home. Simply download the Sora App on a mobile device or go to https://soraapp.com/welcome. Students log in using their school email address and password. Click HERE for more on getting started with Sora.
Thank you to families who supported this year’s Book Fair, your purchases help grow our library collection for all students to enjoy. We’re also thrilled that many students have joined the Premier’s Reading Challenge and are logging their reading to earn a certificate from the Premier.
Whether reading, researching, or simply finding a quiet spot to relax, students continue to find all kinds of treasure in the PCACS Library.
