Whether they were stepping onto a new campus, meeting new teachers, or preparing for the next stage in their educational journey, every student embraced the experience with enthusiasm despite a few early nerves.
Peter Carnley Community Anglican School was alive with excitement recently as students from across the school community took part in Orientation and Transition Days.
Year 6 Transitioning to Senior School
For our Year 6 students preparing to become the new Year 7 cohort as well as new students who will join our community in 2026, the day offered a thrilling taste of Senior School life. What began with a mix of nerves and anticipation quickly transformed into excitement as they explored their new surroundings.
The programme was packed with engaging activities designed to showcase the breadth of opportunities awaiting them next year. Students conducted science experiments in the laboratories, tested their teamwork and athletic skills in multi sports sessions within their House groups, and unleashed their creativity through drama and music games.
The day concluded with a whole cohort “Minute to Win It” style competition, bringing laughter, energy, and a strong sense of camaraderie. By the end of the day, the future Year 7 students were buzzing with enthusiasm, excited for the many varied opportunities, independence, and learning experiences that await them in Senior School.
Year 1 Students Moving to Wellard Campus
Meanwhile, our Year 1 students experienced their own important transition as they visited the Wellard Campus, where they will join Year 2 next year. The shift from Calista to Wellard can feel significant, but the students settled in quickly with the help of welcoming staff and thoughtfully planned activities.
The wide-open spaces, new learning areas, and time spent with older buddies were among their favourite parts of the visit. Buddy time in particular helped calm nerves, giving students a friendly guide and a sense of connection as they explored their future classrooms and play areas.
By the end of the session, many students didn’t want to leave already imagining themselves as confident Year 2 students.
Kindergarten Orientation at Calista Campus
Our youngest learners had a special moment of their own during Kindergarten Orientation at the Calista Campus. For many families, this is the very first step into formal schooling and the day was filled with wonder, discovery and warm welcomes.
Kindy children loved meeting their teachers and exploring the vibrant early learning spaces prepared for them. From sensory play to story corners and outdoor adventures, the activities helped ease first day nerves and turned the unknown into something exciting. Parents and carers also appreciated the chance to see the environment and get to know the staff who will be guiding their children’s first year of school.
Across every year level, one theme was clear; although the day began with a few nerves, students quickly found comfort, confidence and fun in the experiences set up for them. Orientation and Transition Days play a vital role in helping students feel prepared and supported and this year’s events were a wonderful celebration of growth, community, and new beginnings.
Peter Carnley Community Anglican School looks forward to welcoming all students into their new year levels in 2026, confident that they are ready for the exciting journey ahead.
