From competitive match play and leadership development to representative opportunities and international competition, Semester One has been a memorable and rewarding journey for the Netball Academy.
Semester One has been a busy and rewarding period for the Netball Academy, marked by strong development, leadership growth and plenty of competitive match play. Throughout the term, students have taken part in regular practice matches against other schools, providing valuable game experience and the opportunity to put training into action in a competitive environment.
A highlight of the semester has been the commitment shown by our Year 9 and 10 students in giving back to the younger members of the program. Year 9 students have stepped into leadership roles by undertaking their Umpiring Accreditation, with many now qualified umpires who support training sessions and matches. At the same time, Year 10 students have been working towards their Coaching Accreditation, gaining practical experience by assisting with sessions and mentoring younger players. Their willingness to lead by example has been outstanding and reflects the strong culture within the Academy.
The Netball Academy also proudly represented the school at the SSWA High School Cup, where students demonstrated skill, sportsmanship and resilience against strong opposition. The experience gained from this competition has been invaluable and will support continued improvement moving into Semester Two.
Our annual international fixture, this year against the Singapore Netball Academy was once again a fantastic showcase of talent, development, and sportsmanship across all four games. The Year 7s continued their outstanding form taking out a win. Their consistency, teamwork, and confidence were on full display, highlighting the strength of this emerging group.
Across the Year 8–10 matches, it was an incredible day of growth and opportunity. Many of our students stepped into key roles, taking on scoring and timing responsibilities, while also demonstrating the depth of our program through the confident performances of our latest Accredited Umpires and Coaches.
Beyond the competition, the day was a celebration of connection and culture. Players from both academies embraced the spirit of the occasion, coming together after the matches for joint team building activities on the oval. It was fantastic to see both boys and girls supporting one another, building relationships, and embodying true sportsmanship.
We wish the students the best of luck as preparations begin for the Year 10 Gold Coast trip, where they will have the exciting opportunity to compete, learn and further develop both on and off the court.
