As we move into 2026, I encourage all members of our community to live our School Mission to be purposeful, caring, connected and aspirational and to make the most of every opportunity that comes our way.
It was a privilege to welcome our School community back to the beginning of the 2026 academic year with such a meaningful and culturally rich assembly.
We were honoured to have respected Noongar Elder and Deputy Mayor of the City of Kwinana, Mr Barry Winmar, join us to conduct a Welcome to Country and lead a Smoking Ceremony for our School community. This powerful ceremony marked the beginning of our year with reflection, connection and respect, acknowledging the ancestors who have cared for this land for generations and cleansing and protecting our shared learning space.
Mr Winmar is a valued friend of Peter Carnley Anglican Community School and has played an important role in many significant moments in our history. From the dedication of the Grace Chapel in 2022 to the first Smoking Ceremony at the opening of Moortang Mia our special gathering place meaning “place of family” his generosity in sharing culture continues to enrich our School.
As we begin 2026, it is wonderful to reflect on how far our School has come. From opening in 2007 with just 128 students and 17 staff, we now welcome more than 1,440 students and 180 staff. With our 20th anniversary approaching in 2027 and the opening of new learning spaces in Stage 9, it is an exciting time to be part of the PCACS community.
I was delighted to welcome new families, students and staff across all year levels, and to see our returning students settle back into School life so positively. Our Year 7 students begin their Senior School journey and our Year 12 students, the Class of 2026, step into their final year with many exciting milestones ahead.
A highlight was the commissioning of our 2026 School Prefects and Junior School Captains. Watching our student leaders publicly commit to serving our School with integrity, compassion and responsibility was a proud moment for our entire community. The presentation of blazers, badges and leadership symbols reinforced the importance of faith, service and example within our School.
I am confident that our student leaders will guide our community with wisdom and courage throughout the year ahead.
As we move into 2026, I encourage all members of our community to live our School Mission to be purposeful, caring, connected and aspirational and to make the most of every opportunity that comes our way.
I look forward to a wonderful year of learning, growth and community together.
