Over the past two weeks, Peter Carnley Anglican Community School has been awash with colour, cheering, and friendly rivalry as students from both the Junior and Senior Schools took part in our annual Interhouse Athletics Carnivals.
While the races, jumps and throws certainly provided plenty of excitement, these events are about far more than who crosses the finish line first. Athletics carnivals celebrate participation, perseverance, and House spirit, giving every student the opportunity to contribute to something bigger than themselves.
From determined athletes chasing personal bests to students courageously stepping onto the track for the very first time, the carnivals showcased the many ways success can be measured. Not every athlete received a ribbon, but every student added energy, enthusiasm and encouragement to their House's efforts. In many cases, some of the loudest cheers came not for a record breaking performance, but for a classmate who simply refused to give up.
Sporting competition teaches valuable life lessons. Students learn resilience when things do not go their way, humility in victory, grace in defeat and the importance of teamwork. These are qualities that extend well beyond the athletics field and into the classroom, workplace and wider community. Supporting the Fremantle Dockers, for example, certainly teaches the importance of resilience, emotional strength and a perpetual sense of optimism for a glorious future that may arrive sometime soon (or not)!
We congratulate all students, staff and families who contributed to the success of both carnivals. Whether competing, officiating, supporting or simply cheering from the sidelines, everyone played a part in creating two memorable celebrations of House and School spirit.
Of course, the focus changes a little when it comes to the KSSA and ACC Interschool Athletics Carnivals! Representing your School is an honour, but it also carries a responsibility to ensure we are covered in the glory of victory and dominate our enemies. Go PCACS!
