"A grandparent is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend"
On Tuesday 28 April the school celebrated Grandparents' Day, a joyful and meaningful occasion for our Junior School students to welcome their grandparents or special friends to Peter Carnley Anglican Community School. It was wonderful to see so many visitors sharing in the day across both Campuses.
At the Calista Campus, the celebration began with an assembly in the auditorium. The students performed a song that was warmly received and brought plenty of smiles to the audience.
Ms Janes shared a heartfelt reflection about her own experiences with her children’s grandparents, reminding everyone of the importance of taking time to play and connect with children, no matter how busy life can be. After morning tea, classrooms came alive with activity as grandparents joined students for games, colouring, and a glimpse into their schoolwork. Many grandparents left proudly wearing their Best Grandparent badges and big smiles from sharing special moments with their grandchild.
At the Wellard Campus, the morning began with a delicious morning tea in Grace Chapel before guests gathered for an assembly in the Keith Lindbeck Centre. Class 5H delighted the audience with a news broadcast sharing what they love most about spending time with their grandparents, from baking, knitting and gardening. Mr Wynhorst spoke movingly about his own grandparents, recounting their experiences in Holland during the war and the challenges they faced before settling in Australia. He encouraged students to take the opportunity to learn more about their own family stories and heritage by asking their grandparents lots of questions. Classroom activities followed, providing further opportunities for connection, conversation, and shared experiences.
A special thank you to the Parents and Friends Association for providing such a well received morning tea at both Campuses. We also extend our appreciation to all grandparents and parents for their support of the Scholastic Book Fair in support of the School library.
Thank you to everyone who attended, especially those that attended both Campus. It was a true highlight for our students to proudly show their grandparents around their classrooms and share a glimpse of their School life with such joy.
