Last week, both the Calista and Wellard Campuses warmly welcomed grandparents and special friends for a heartwarming Grandparents Day celebration—an event that continues to be a highlight of the school calendar.

The day commenced at the Calista and concluded at Wellard with guests warmly welcomed with delightful morning teas, thoughtfully prepared by the Parents and Friends (P&F) Association at both locations. Our special guests were then invited to special assemblies led by PCACS students, who delighted the crowd with lively dances to tunes from the grandparents’ era, accompanied by clever reflections on how childhood has changed through the generations.

Principal, Ms Felicity House and Head of Junior School, Ms Kierin Janes, spoke about the invaluable role grandparents play in a child’s life—offering time, love, wisdom, and a unique kind of care. Ms House shared personal stories of learning resilience and sustainability from her own grandparents, especially through time spent in her grandmother’s kitchen.

Visitors later joined students in their classrooms, where they engaged in activities and interviews about life in “the olden days,” linking beautifully to the students’ History curriculum. A stroll through the campus and a visit to the popular Book Fair completed the experience, with grandparents modelling the joy and value of reading.

Maggie Dent’s concept of “lighthouses”—trusted adults who shine guiding light into children’s lives—was echoed throughout the day. Grandparents, through their presence and extravagant love, proved once again that they are essential beacons in their grandchildren’s lives.

For those without a visitor, shared grandparents ensured no child missed out. PCACS is deeply grateful for the support, stories, and warmth shared by our grandparent community. Your light continues to brighten our students’ journey.
