Subject selection for Year 10 students marks an exciting milestone as they take the next step in their school journey.

At PCACS, this process is about much more than simply picking subjects, it's about identifying the combination that best matches each student’s interests, strengths, and aspirations to ensure success in Years 11 and 12.

In Career classes throughout Term 2, students have been actively exploring their upper School course options. These discussions have encouraged them to delve into the wide range of subjects available and consider how each one might align with their future goals.

Adding a valuable hands on element to the process, current Year 11 students, supported by Heads of Departments and the Deputy Head of Senior School, hosted a well attended Subject Expo over several lunchtimes. This initiative gave Year 10 students the opportunity to speak directly with those already studying the courses. Hearing the real pros and cons from a student perspective added depth to their understanding and helped them make informed decisions.

The subject selection journey also includes exploring a variety of post School pathways, whether that’s university, TAFE, apprenticeships, or entering the workforce. Students are encouraged to keep an open mind and gather as much information as possible to make confident, informed choices.

As part of PCACS's commitment to providing individualised pathways, we encourage students interested in Certificate courses to explore the VETDSS (Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students) subjects available. These courses include an off campus day in the student's timetable, allowing for specialised training and hands on learning. As places are competitive, students are encouraged to work closely with our VET Coordinator, Ms Amy Normoyle, to ensure a strong and well prepared application is submitted.

A well attended Parent Information Night allowed parents to actively engage in this process. At PCACS, we strongly believe that a three way partnership between parents, students, and the School is key to student success. The evening offered parents an important opportunity to learn about WACE requirements, the selection process and to ask questions tailored to their child’s individual path.

Subject selection is not just a task, it’s a launchpad for the future, and we are proud to support our students, alongside their parents and carers, as they navigate this exciting stage with confidence and clarity.

Wishing you a Blessed holiday at the end of Term 2.
