Each duologue came from a different play, making every performance unique and engaging.
The Performing Arts department is still basking in the glow of the incredible success of The Addams Family Musical. The dedication, talent and hard work displayed by our students made the production a memorable highlight of the year. While we are proud of what was achieved on the big stage, Term 3 has seen our focus shift closer to home, with a range of exciting in school performances and curriculum activities showcasing the creativity of our students across all year levels.
In the classroom, our Year 7 students have been exploring vocal qualities and learning how voice can be used to create character, atmosphere and meaning. They are now preparing for their Radio Drama performances, where they will put these skills into practice through engaging audio based storytelling. Meanwhile, Year 8 students have been investigating Poetry Drama and are currently analysing ways to bring Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes to life on stage. Their work has encouraged them to think creatively about characterisation, movement and the dramatic interpretation of text.
Our Year 9 Drama students recently took an exciting step in their performance journey, presenting their first school performance to an external audience. Family and friends gathered in the Moortang Mia Auditorium for an evening entitled Duologue Street, where students showcased scenes developed using Stanislavski inspired acting techniques. Students worked diligently to create realistic characters, block their performances, and design costumes and sets that supported their chosen scenes. Each duologue came from a different play, making every performance unique and engaging. The standard of work was outstanding, highlighting the exceptional talent we have here at PCACS. A special thank you goes to our Year 12 Music Production students, who assisted with set changes throughout the evening, and to our Arts Prefect, Larna Sweetman, who did a fantastic job as MC.
Looking ahead, our Year 10 and Year 11 Drama students are working tirelessly in preparation for the second Drama Night of the term. Year 10 students will present The Day the Internet Died, while the Year 11 General Drama class will perform Knock Knock. Both productions promise plenty of laughter, entertainment and high quality performances. We warmly invite all members of the school community to attend this free event, running from 5.00pm to 7.00pm on Wednesday of Week 9. It is sure to be another wonderful celebration of the performing arts at PCACS.
