R U OK? Day serves as an important reminder that wellbeing is not something we focus on for just one day each year.

Last Friday, our Senior School community came together to celebrate R U OK? Day, a day dedicated to reminding us of the importance of connection, belonging and supporting one another.

In the lead up to the event, students were challenged to consider some important questions: Do we notice when our friends seem different? Do we take the time to check in? If someone tells us they are not okay, are we willing to listen and help them access support? These conversations encouraged students to recognise that a simple question and a willingness to listen can make a significant difference in someone's life.

The activities offered throughout the day were intentionally selected to promote all aspects of positive wellbeing. Students participated in experiences that supported physical wellbeing, creativity, mindfulness, education, relaxation, belonging and connection with their peers. From active sessions and creative workshops to opportunities for reflection and social connection, the day provided something for everyone.

Students participated in a range of presentations and workshops delivered by both guest speakers and local providers. Our educational programme featured presentations from David Castellanelli from Levitate Learning, Justin Armour from Bully Zero, and Emo Majok through Armed for Life. These sessions encouraged students to reflect on resilience, wellbeing, relationships and the importance of seeking support when needed.

The day also included a variety of interactive experiences facilitated by local businesses and community providers. Students took part in a drumming circle led by Rhythm Fix, a dance and fitness session with The Jungle Body by Sam T, and a martial arts workshop delivered by Rampage Muay Thai. These activities complemented the broader wellbeing focus of the day and provided opportunities for students to connect, participate and challenge themselves in a positive environment.

A highlight of the event was seeing students engage enthusiastically with the wide range of activities on offer while spending meaningful time with one another. The vibrant atmosphere, filled with conversation, laughter and participation, reflected the strong sense of community that exists within our school. The lunchtime concert was a particular highlight, showcasing the talents of students from across all year groups through rock band and music ensemble performances. Students also had the opportunity to connect with a range of mental health and community organisations through interactive stalls, including Man Up, The Push Up Challenge, Bare Hugs, headspace, Zone Youth Space, HelpingMinds and Butterfly. These organisations provided valuable information, resources and opportunities for students to learn more about wellbeing and support services available within the community.

R U OK? Day serves as an important reminder that wellbeing is not something we focus on for just one day each year. It is about creating a culture where people feel seen, valued and supported every day. By checking in with others, listening without judgement and helping those who may be struggling, we can all contribute to a community where everyone knows they belong. This message was at the heart of both the day and the conversations leading up to it.

Thank you to the staff, Prefects, Student Council, guest speakers, local businesses and community organisations who helped make this year's event such a success.
