On Friday 16 May, the school community was privileged to host a very special guest,
Dr Peter Carnley, our School Patron. His visit provided a unique opportunity for students and staff across both Calista and Wellard Campuses to engage with such a distinguished leader in a day rich with learning, creativity, and conversation.

The day began at the Calista Campus where Dr Carnley was welcomed by our Early Learning students. The students enthusiastically shared their thoughts on who they believed Dr Carnley might be. Their imaginative ideas ranged from explorer to author, some even thought he was Ms House’s dad! Reflecting the curiosity and open mindedness of young learners. This light-hearted yet thoughtful exchange transitioned into a Q and A session, where Dr Carnley graciously responded to students’ wonderings, shedding light on his life, work, and experiences. Inspired by the conversation, the students then set about drawing portraits of Dr Carnley, capturing his presence through their own creative reflection.

Dr Carnley departed for the Wellard Campus, where the Junior School Quest students from Year 4 and 5 eagerly awaited him. These gifted and talented learners enjoyed an intimate session exploring our Learner Strengths and what they mean to Dr Carnley. The discussion was intellectually stimulating and deeply respectful, offering students a chance to engage with someone who has spent a lifetime grappling with the ethical and spiritual dimensions of society.

The day concluded with a forum, where Senior School students met with Dr Carnley in the Grace Chapel. This session invited students to pose thoughtful questions and engage in open dialogue on topics ranging from his reaction when he was chosen to be Archbishop, the naming of the School and how faith plays out in our lives. Dr Carnley’s responses were both insightful and encouraging, leaving a lasting impression on all present.

Dr Carnley’s warmth, wisdom, and willingness to listen and engage made this a truly memorable day for students and staff alike—a celebration of inquiry, imagination, and intergenerational connection. We truly are blessed to have ‘A Day with Dr Carnley’.
