The End of Year is in Sight

It is with excitement and trepidation that I view the weeks ahead in the PCACS Calendar. As the final weeks of the School year approach, the calendar is full of end of year events both traditional and additional. As the ATAR exams have finished, we wish the Year 12s well as they await their results. The Year 10 and 11 students have also completed their exams this week. I wish all our students well as they prepare for final assessments.

The Year 9s are now preparing for the final stages of The Rite Journey with their camp and final ceremony in the coming weeks. The Year 10s are readying themselves for Work Experience to equip them with insights into their chosen work placements. PCACS is one of few schools to support a work experience programme. It is testimony to our commitment to preparing future ready students.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is a significant occasion in the PCACS calendar as we come together as a community to remember the sacrifices made by those men and women who have served our country. We honour all those who have died in war, and hold with high respect all those who are still serving in regions of conflict around the world. We held our own service in the KLC last Friday which included all the students here for Transition Day also. I thank the cadets and the Music students and staff for their contribution to the service.

Lest we forget.

2023 Transition Day

There was much excitement on Friday at Transition Day. Joyous sounds of Year 6s from our Junior School and from local primary schools were also heard throughout the School as the 2023 Year 7s came into Senior School for the day. With over sixty five students joining our transitioning Junior School students, we have our largest group of Year 7s starting Senior School next year. The most excited were the Year 1s who came across from Calista to Wellard to be Year 2s for the day. All these students made the beginnings of new friendships and we can’t wait to see them again for Orientation Day in January.

Carols on the Green

The Carols on the Green event on Tuesday 29 November will begin with a Community Picnic at 4.00pm, with the Carols Service beginning on the oval at 6.00pm. Thank you to the P&F for organising the food trucks. Carnley’s Cuppas will also be open, operated by our student baristas. We will be supporting the Anglicare WA Christmas Appeal by collecting gold coin donations and raffling Christmas hampers. You can get your tickets here https://www.trybooking.com/CEAFF.

This year we will again be collecting new stationery items and gift cards for Anglicare to distribute to families in need. The donations last year were so generous and I thank everyone for considering the children who will benefit from starting the year with new stationery items.

I wish you well for these final weeks of the School year and hope to see you at the Nativity, Carols on the Green or at the Awards Ceremonies.

God bless.

Exciting Times Ahead!

We recently welcomed the 2023 Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten children at their Orientation Morning at Calista campus. The Year 1 children enjoyed spending Transition Day at Wellard campus and the Year 6 students enjoyed a day in the Senior School. These experiences gave the students a taste of the exciting times ahead for them in 2023.

The end of Term 4 is fast approaching and there are some wonderful events on the horizon.

Nativity - Kindergarten to Year 1, Tuesday 22 November

On Tuesday 22 November the Kindergarten, Pre Primary and Year 1 children will perform two identical Nativity shows in the Calista Auditorium at 9.00am and 10.30am. This is a ticketed event and families are asked to only attend the performance for which they have tickets. I look forward to seeing families at this joyful, festive event. The children are very excited and have been enthusiastically rehearsing over recent weeks.

Junior School Awards Presentation – Year 2 to Year 6, Thursday 24 November

The Junior School Awards Presentation will be held in the KLC at 10.00am on Thursday 24 November. At the ceremony the Junior Strings Ensemble, Junior Dance Troupe, Young Voices and Peter Carnley’s Children’s Choir will perform. Academic Excellence, Learner Strengths All Rounder, Citizenship, Inquiring Minds, Specialist Subject and Ignite awards will be presented to students in Years 2 to 6. I look forward to seeing you there on this special occasion.

Year 1 Transition Assembly – Tuesday 29 November

The Year 1 students will be acknowledged at the Calista assembly on 29 November at 8.45am. It is an exciting time for Year 1 students, as they prepare for the transition to the Wellard campus for Year 2 in 2023.  At the assembly, each Year 1 student will receive a Transition Certificate.

Carols on the Green – Tuesday 29 November

I look forward to seeing Junior School families at Carols on the Green. All Year 2 to Year 6 students will be performing on stage and are asked to wear their school uniform with Christmas embellishments. Kindergarten to Year 1 students who have chosen not to perform as part of the Christmas Choir are very welcome to attend this event with their families under parental supervision.

Year 6 Transition Assembly and Fun Day – Wednesday 30 November

On 30 November at 8.45am the Year 6 students will receive Transition Certificates at an assembly in the KLC. Following the assembly, they will enjoy a fun day of activities! The Year 6 students are thanked for their student leadership of the Junior School throughout 2022 and are wished all the very best as they prepare for transitioning to Senior School.

I wish everyone a wonderful, safe fortnight ahead. God bless!

Head of Senior School - Mr Steve Wynhorst

Friday last week saw over 140 excited Year 6 students experience their Senior School Transition Day. This is our largest intake ever into the Senior School and it has allowed us to provide an extra class in each subject area. If you know of any families thinking of sending their children to our wonderful School in 2023 or 2024, please encourage them to contact the School as soon as possible.

The Year 10 and 11 exams were completed this week and the last ATAR examination occurred on Thursday. I wish all the Year 12s a safe and enjoyable ‘Leavers Week’ celebration – please read the leaverswa website for important information regarding how to be safe during this week. I encourage all Year 10 and 11 students to engage meaningfully with the feedback they will begin to receive on their examination performance. Keep it simple – what went well, what are the areas for growth, and what strategies can be put in place to strive for their personal best.

Congratulations to the Year 7 and 8 Voyager Music students who performed at the annual Voyager Concert on Tuesday evening. The wonderful programme continues to grow in quality.

Next week is a very special week in our School calendar. The Year 9s will be on camp, whilst the Year 10s will be on work experience. I hope all students engage deeply with these opportunities for growth and development.

A reminder that the Senior School Awards Presentation takes place on the morning of Thursday 1 December commencing at 10.00am in the KLC. All Senior School students (Years 7-12) are expected to attend. Further information regarding the event will be sent out next week.

To allow for holiday planning, please note the following Senior School calendar starting days:

Monday 30 January 2023 – all Year 7s

Tuesday 31 January 2023 – all Senior School including new students

God bless

Anglicare WA Christmas Appeal

In support of Anglicare WA, YMAD (Youth Making a Difference) is collecting items that will help to spread warmth and light to those in need this Christmas. When going through hard times, families struggle to afford back to school supplies and this can impact not only their education but their confidence and dignity too. During this Christmas season, we want to make sure as many of those children receive the back to school supplies they need, ready for the 2023 school year.

Donations can be placed in the collection boxes in the following locations: Calista Administration, the Director’s Office in the Junior School and at Reception in the Senior School. Donations are due by Tuesday 29 November before Carols on the Green. If you can consider donating one or more items from the list below, it would be very much appreciated:

  • School Supplies (must be brand new or never used): lunch boxes, backpacks, pencil cases, drink bottles, stationery, headphones
  • Gift Cards: Target, Kmart, Big W, Coles, Woolworths, Officeworks

 Christmas Hamper Raffle

To further support the Christmas Appeal, YMAD is organising a Christmas Hamper Raffle that will be drawn at Carols on the Green on Tuesday 29 November. The three hampers being raffled off are Christmas Foodie, Self‐Care and Summer Fun. This year we will also be raffling off a scooter that was kindly donated by Reece Whitby MLA. Tickets can be purchased using the following try booking link before Tuesday 29 November https://www.trybooking.com/CEAFF

Tickets can be purchased as follows: 1 ticket $2, 3 tickets $5, 8 tickets $10. The winner must be present at Carols on the Green to receive the prize.

I wish you and your families a wonderful Christmas season.

The Rite Journey Homecoming - Year 9

Throughout the year, the Year 9 students have been involved in The Rite Journey, an exciting and innovative programme. An essential part of The Rite Journey programme is the ‘Homecoming’ Ceremony that acknowledges the transformation the students have made throughout the year. The Ceremony will be held at Shoalwater Reserve on the corner of Arcadia Dr and Churchill Ave at 6:30pm on Monday 5 December.

We ask that parents arrive with their child at 6.15pm at Shoalwater Reserve for a 6.30pm start. There is no bus transportation provided for this event. Students will not be required to wear school uniform, instead we ask they wear appropriate smart informal clothing, including enclosed shoes. Boys are to wear long pants and a collared shirt and girls can wear a dress or long pants and a top that is appropriate for the event. We look forward to seeing the Year 9s and their families at the upcoming ceremony and I trust that you and your child found The Rite Journey to be a positive, rewarding and transformative process.

Peer Support Training - Year 9

In Year 10, all students will have a role as a Peer Support buddy to the Year 7 students to assist with their transition to Senior School. In preparation for this, all Year 9 students will participate in two days of training with their Tutor Teachers. This will be an opportunity for the students to develop their leadership and communication skills. Following the training, six Year 10 students per House will be selected as Peer Support Leaders. These students will help to facilitate and run the weekly sessions with the Year 7s next year. This is an added responsibility on top of their role as a buddy.

The Peer Support Training will take place on Monday 5 December and Tuesday 6 December (Week 9) and is compulsory for all Year 9 students.  This is a fun and interactive way to end the term and their time in Year 9.

KSSA Interschool Athletics

On Thursday 3 November and Friday 4 November PCACS had the pleasure of hosting the 2022 Kwinana School Sport Association (KSSA) Athletics Carnival. Thursday was filled with middle distance running, jumps and throws action from the Year 4 – 6 students. Our students performed strongly, and we finished the day in second place, just two points behind the leading school.

On Friday selected Year 1 – 6 students were in action competing in sprints, relays and team games. A stand out performance of the day saw the Year 6 boys relay team consisting of Luke Peters, Max Morphew, Jakobe Tamariki and William Jones complete the 4x 100m relay in 52.23 seconds.

PCACS finished the carnival in third place. I would like to recognise Keira Peters (Year 4 Third Placed Girl) and William Jones (Year 6 Runner Up Champion Boy) for achieving individual success during the carnival.

A big thank you goes to Mr James Morris, Mrs  Nicky Jones, Mrs Heidi Cobain and Mrs Donna Bowdler for their assistance during the carnival, and also to our wonderful maintenance team who helped with set and pack up. My last lot of thanks goes to our students whose strong work ethic shone during the carnival with some fantastic results.
