Expand All

From the Principal

Ms Felicity House

Who would have guessed that 2022 would be such a rollercoaster ride? After the restrictions of Term 1, it is so refreshing to complete Term 3 with a full complement of activities and some added gems. With the freedom to hold events and welcome parents and visitors back on site, it has been all steam ahead! All the usual Term 3 events have been held such as the carnivals, Book Week, Operation Op Shop, Year 4 sleepover, Tabloid sports, World Peace Games and RUOK Day. Learning Showcases across the Calista and Wellard campuses proved very informative. The students enjoyed sharing their learning with their families.

Arts and Technologies Week

The term ended with the Arts and Technologies Week, with the Exhibition Opening last Friday night and the Performing Arts Showcase this week. A showcase of visual art, wood work, metal work, digital art, textiles and wearable art, the exhibition included music performances, dance and a fashion parade. Artist Mikaela Miller was our guest artist, opening our exhibition by encouraging the audience to consider place, identity and their relationship with the natural environment. The work on display certainly highlighted the creative abilities of our students. I thank our Arts and Technologies staff for their inspiration.

It Takes a Spark STEM Conference

Combining TIDES and Arts and Technology Week, PCACS hosted the It Takes a Spark Conference. 400 students and 50 staff from 38 schools came to explore STEM innovation with presenters from across the country. We were honoured to welcome Deputy Premier, The Honourable Roger Cook to open the Conference, encouraging the students to explore Science and Technology to be the change makers of the future. The whole campus came alive with the Chapel, KLC, Hub, Commons, Science and Technology buildings all in use. After such a success, PCACS will host this state conference again in 2023.

Hub Update

As Term 3 closes, I am thrilled that the Hub building has been completed and we are moving in! The Hub is right in the heart of the school and will be enjoyed by Junior and Senior School students. The former undercover area has been refurbished into an auditorium for performing arts and incursions. It has already been used to host the It Takes a Spark Conference and Kaboom percussion performances. The new café facing the lawn has started with a ‘soft opening’ with full operation planned for next term. The upstairs innovation and research centre and reading room are being stocked with books in readiness for Term 4. The IT Tech Support, TIDES classroom and offices are also in the building. The students are making good use of the new outdoor covered areas and the furniture donated by the P&F. The Hub will be officially named and opened next term and will add so much to the life of our School.

Staff News

We wish Mrs Kath Nichols and Ms Ardie McCoy all the best as they take well deserved long service leave next term. We also wish Mrs Kirsty Cook all the best as she leaves PCACS at the end of this term.

As we head into School holidays, I wish our families, students and staff a restful and enjoyable break.

God bless.

Head of Junior School - Mrs Shirley Steel

Term 3 – Fabulous Finish!

The past fortnight flew by in a flurry of activities. During this time the Junior School students and teachers showed excellence in action. There were many proud moments!

Learning Showcases

At the Calista and Wellard Learning Showcases, the teachers opened their classrooms. The students led engaging conversations about their learning with their families. It was exciting to see their confidence shine. This was a glorious moment for the teachers to step back to absorb the magnitude of our student's capabilities. Congratulations students!

Tabloid Sports

Congratulations to Mrs Fleur Gwerder for quickly making adjustments due to the wet weather. The Kindergarten to Year 1 students loved participating in their running race and tabloid rotations. Thank you to the families who attended to cheer the children on. Wonderful PCACS community spirit!

Year 4 Sleepover

The Year 4 students excelled themselves during their Sleepover at school. They enjoyed toasting marshmallows on the campfire under the stars, playing dodgeball, and then watching a movie before falling asleep in their cozy sleeping bags. They woke early and bright-eyed the following morning for a play on the oval before breakfast, then headed home. Year 4 students are now super-excited about the camp that lies ahead for them when they are in Year 5.

World Peace Game

Mrs Samantha Lucic returned to PCACS to run World Peace Game with selected Year 5 students. During the week long game the students grappled with global issues, resolved large-scale problems, responded to natural disasters, and worked collaboratively to achieve world peace. They were excited to achieve world peace with just seven minutes left of the week-long game. Participating in World peace Game is a truly memorable and mind-shifting experience for our students. We are pleased to offer this once a year at PCACS. Thank you to Mrs Lucic for facilitating the game.

Dance Performances

Last Monday was full of dance energy and a whole lot of cuteness when the Pre Kindergarten to Year 1 students performed their dance routines for their families. It was a spectacular dance party for sure! Well done students and Jo from Eudance.

Trek for Samoa

Year 2 to Year 6 students completed their Trek for Samoa last Wednesday. I was privileged to join the Year 2 students on their Trek. I was struck by the students' spontaneous expressions of awe and wonder as they trekked through the beautiful Henley Reserve bushland and commented on the

natural beauty surrounding them. How lucky are we to have glorious nature on our doorstep? This is a reminder as we embark on the school holidays to seek opportunities to head outdoors to marvel at the natural world before us. I for one will be spending time outdoors these holidays, gardening, walking, and basking in the changing weather. I hope you find the time to head outdoors too.

Great news – The Trek for Samoa has raised over $1000 for All Saints Anglican School in Samoa. Well done Junior School for your efforts and the Trek and your fundraising.

Staffing News

We farewelled Kirsty Cook at the end of Term 3 and will welcome Jennifer Morris in Term 4. Kath Nicholls is lucky to be on Long Service Leave in Term 4 and we welcome Kayla Walsham as her replacement. Please join me in wishing these staff well for their endeavours ahead.

Enjoy the school holiday ahead and I wish everyone safety, peace and happiness.

God bless!

Calista Edu-Dance Concert

Every Monday of Term 3 the students at Calista campus have taken dance lessons with their class. These lessons were run by Jo from Edu-Dance. The students and staff had lots of fun and were highly engaged throughout all lessons. The lessons culminated in a concert for all classes to show their families the fantastic dance skills they had developed over the period of these lessons. The concerts were a huge success with the students absolutely shining on the day and parents and families joining in by clapping along to the music. It was such a joy to see.

Peter Carnley's Got Talent

The annual event on the school calendar that all performers wait eagerly for - Peter Carnley’s Got Talent! The process began two weeks ago as the Year 12 Prefects and Performing Arts Staff auditioned over 100 acts, narrowing it down to the Top 12 performances. The Top 12 recently performed at the PCACS Talent Show on Friday 16 September as part of the Opening of the Arts and Technologies Exhibition. The judges adjudicated each act on their technical ability, their stage presence, creativity and entertainment value and selected the Top 6 to move through to the Grand Final.

Congratulations to follow students who have been selected:

Ivy Dickson, Junior solo dance

Rohan Luo,  Junior piano solo

Ciera Carter, Junior solo dance

Danielle Poppen and Yara Roaen, Senior vocal duet

Charlie De Brito, Senior solo dance

Jasmine Findlater and Piper Smith, Senior vocal duet

The Grand Final will be held during the Principal’s Assembly next term at 2.00pm on Tuesday 11 October in the KLC, where the Junior School and Senior School winners of Peter Carnley’s Got Talent for 2022 will be crowned.

Thank you to our enthusiastic and incredibly talented students of PCACS who make this event so entertaining and enjoyable every year.

Year 6 Business and Economics

This term Year 6 learnt about business and economics. They investigated needs and wants along with what companies are doing to create a more sustainable future. Their task was to create a product which would meet the needs and wants of our local community. The students build a product, created a business name and designed their own website. The final presentation was then presented to the class and displayed during the Wellard Learning Showcase.

We certainly have many creative young entrepreneurs in Year 6.

Ms Danielle Butler
TEACHER

Year 6 Healthy Lunch Box

As part of the Year 6 Health and Design unit, students investigated and designed two healthy meal options suitable for a lunch box meal. Students looked at what our body needs to be healthy, researched safe meal preparations and considered their own cooking abilities to design these meals. Students cooked and prepared these meals at home independently and brought them to school to enjoy. We have some budding chefs in Year 6!

Ms Lana Ceklic

Fair Game Day

The Health and Physical Education Department, along with the Year 10 students, were excited to host a 'Fair Game' day at the Wellard campus last week. Students arrived at school wearing sports uniforms from every imaginable sport including dance, martial arts, football codes, netball, basketball, cricket, tennis and so many more. We were so humbled by the donations of sporting equipment to recycle into rural and remote communities of Western Australia.

Some students donated a gold coin while others brought in bats, balls, boots, raquets and sticks of every description. So many children and youth in remote communities will benefit from your generosity and we send out a huge THANK YOU to every student, staff member and parent that took the effort to wear their sporting attire and/or donate on the day.

Next term we will be presenting the donations to the 'Fair Game' representatives to distribute on our behalf.

Below is a photo of our first student donation and our collective accumulation of equipment.

Thank you all.

Student Achievements

On Friday 16 September three students, Miah Lawry (Year 7), Israel Tupou (Year 10) and Caela Trent (Year 12) competed in a CrossFit competition, Fittest in WA for teens held at South Coast Baptist College in Rockingham, a CrossFit affiliate School.

There were four workouts over the day which consisted from hanging knee raises, wall balls, overhead dumbbell walking lunges, cleans and front squats, double unders and shuttle runs. For the top five athletes in each age group, they were told to expect anything from bike, bar and burpees in the final.

Miah was in the Year 7-9 age group and competed in the finals and came in a very impressive third.

Caela was in the Year 10-12 age group and came in an amazing second.

Israel unfortunately was against sixteen very strong competitors and didn't make the finals, but was very strong throughout.

Congratulations to these three students.

It was a fantastic set up competition, thanks to South Coast Baptist College staff and students, Chasing Better Supplies, Frog Grip and Fit Aid for sponsoring.

Mrs Kylie Trent

On the 11 September Kaytee Bogaers competed in the Australian Roadwalk Championships in Melbourne. She competed in the U16 5km walk. Kaytee won a Bronze medal.

Also during these school holidays Kaytee will be travelling to the Gold Coast to take part in the U15 Little Athletics Australia National Camp. Kaytee was selected for this camp for her performance in the 2022 State Championships for her 1500m race walk.
