Nothing stands still at PCACS. Since our last newsletter our students have competed in the ACC Cross Country, 4B have pushed themselves and their guests in Fitter, Faster, Better. Exams and parent teacher interviews have continued to roll through. The music department have been busy with the new sound lab in full swing and the Year 5 and 6 students heading to the Perth Concert Hall. Activities such as these build confidence, team spirit, cooperation and well-being. Details of these and other exciting opportunities can be found further in the newsletter.
Our School Patron, Dr Peter Carnley will join us for Founders’ Day celebrations next week. His legacy is an extraordinary one. Born in New South Wales, Peter Frederick Carnley began his tertiary studies in Law. A deep thinker who continually searches for meaning and knowledge, it wasn’t long before he acted on a deep calling into the priesthood, changing his studies to Theology. He completed his Ph.D at Cambridge University and went on to become the Archbishop of Perth at the age of only 43 and later Primate of the Anglican Church of Australia. Dr Carnley is noted for challenging traditional thinking of the Church. A strong voice in support of the ordination of women, he ordained the first women priests in Australia at St George’s Cathedral in 1992. Those women and many who followed now hold positions in the Church that were previously unthinkable, including the Archbishop of Perth, Kay Goldsworthy, the first female Archbishop in the Anglican Church. Our School is honoured to be named after a living legend, one of the great characters of the Anglican Church. This year we have created ‘A Day with Dr Carnley’ on Tuesday June 11. Dr Carnley will start the day at Calista with our early learners in Chapel and then he will come across to Wellard to spend time with our students and student leaders. He is a devoted husband, father and grandfather and his wife Ann will be delivering the Homily at the Founders’ Day service. Parents are welcome to join us for the Service.

Founders’ Day will begin with a Founders’ Day Service at Calista at 8:45am for our Kindergarten to Year 1 students. The Service for the Year 2 to Year 12 students will begin at 10am in the Keith Lindbeck Centre, Wellard Campus. We honour our School and House Patrons and present our 2020 Scholarship winners, as well as awarding our Service Badges to staff who have been at the School for 5 and 10 years respectively. The students will continue their celebrations with games and activities including the Junior School lapathon. The day will be a lovely blend of respectful reflection, celebration and fun.
This year our focus for fundraising has turned to our local community. We are supporting Anglicare through a number of initiatives including the Junior School lapathon. At Calista, we are raffling a bike thanks to the generous donation from The Honourable Mr Roger Cook MLA – Member for Kwinana. Tickets can be purchased from Calista administration. We are pleased to announce that Mr Cook will be in attendance at the Calista Founders’ Day Service to draw the winner of the bike on 14 June. All proceeds will go to the Anglicare Winter Appeal to support the important work they do in this region. We thank Roger Cook for his ongoing support of our School.
God bless.
