These past two weeks have been filled with activities and events to grow minds, bodies and souls. We celebrated the success of our swimmers at the Senior School Assembly and at the Junior School Carnival. Amongst the celebration of swim champions and record breakers, we also recognise every swimmer who took part, for it is the effort made by every student, whether by competing or cheering and supporting others that makes a carnival such a delightful event. I thank the parents, friends and past students who joined us and the staff who organised the carnivals. Our swim teams are now preparing for the ACC and KSSA Carnivals. We wish them well in their preparations.

We have nurtured our hearts and souls through some special ceremonies. Ash Wednesday signifies the first day of Lent and gave us an opportunity to come together to reflect, pray and begin preparations for Easter. Lent enables us to consider the direction our lives are taking and to make amends if we have lost our way. As you read this newsletter, you will read more about the Ash Wednesday Service and The Right Journey Calling and Departure Ceremony, a special service for our Year 9 students and their families. PCACS also played a significant role in the Commonwealth Day Service at St George’s Cathedral on 10 March 2019. The Prefects carried the flags of Commonwealth nations and had the opportunity to meet and speak with The Honourable Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia. Our Prefects together with YMAD have been focussing on raising awareness of issues facing our community. Today they held our first Crazy Hair Day to raise awareness and funds for the Leukaemia Foundation. The day was a great success, due to the hard work and inspiration of our Service Captain, Aiden Galbraith and House Captain, Georgia Johnston.

KIC Art Awards
PCACS was well represented in the annual art exhibition hosted by KIC (Kwinana Industries Council). The exhibition allows students from the participating KIC Education Partnership schools to nominate works to be selected for display. With categories covering Visual Art, Digital Media, Woodwork and Metalwork, Fashion, Fabric and Accessories, a variety of work was selected from PCACS. Congratulations to 2018 graduate Kristy Read-Shaw for winning the Garments, Jewellery and Cushion section with a stunning piece she constructed last year. Yara Roaen also received a Highly Commended for a stunning bowl creation in the Woodwork and Metalwork category. The artworks are on display in the Gary Holland Centre in Rockingham until 21 March 2019. You can visit the exhibition between 10.00am and 4.00pm each day.
